Woodland Hills Chiropractor shares a testimonial from a patient.
Can chiropractic help migraines? Family chiropractor in Woodland Hills knows it can.
A lot of people don’t know that the reason I am a chiropractor is because I used to have migraines. I would lay in the dark and cry and beg the pain to go away. It was awful. “Can chiropractic help migraines?” I asked a friend, and she told me it could. I never looked back.
Chiropractic got rid of my headaches for good, and it may help you, too.
I’d like to share a testimonial with you from one of my patients. She had chronic migraines and managed them with Topamax until she wanted to have babies. Topamax can cause birth defects, so she knew she had to find something else. She finally wound up in my office, and here is what she said:
My name is Nellie and I started getting migraines at the age of 12. I suffered for years and thought I was losing my mind because I didn’t understand what was happening to me. I would get the full on, extreme versions of migraines. It first started with my eye seeing dots and strange movement. (After a while, I knew this was the point I needed to take medication, otherwise the pain would be worse.) Then the pain traveled to my fingers, making them numb. Eventually half of my body was paralyzed to the point I couldn’t talk, including nausea and vomiting. It was awful. I would get these migraines about once a month.
I started seeing a chiropractor around the age of 18 to see if this could help ease the pain. I saw him for about 5 years but the migraines did not stop. Eventually I got on the medication Topamax (I call it Dope-a-max) and it worked! A good side effect was that I lost 10 pounds on this medication. I would still get migraines but not as frequently and not as harsh. When I did get a migraine, I would have to take another migraine medication through a needle similar to an epi-pen because I couldn’t keep anything down if I took it orally. I would have to basically stab myself in the leg and I could feel the medication travelling up and down my veins. It was so strange. So I was happy for a few years, with my migraines under control….
Eventually, I got married and wanted to have babies so I had to get off the Topamax due to it causing birth defects. I was on that medication for about 10 years and I was horribly afraid of what would happen to me once I got off of it. So I did some research and replaced it with natural supplements like magnesium and B2. I got a full on migraine the first month I got off the Topamax. I thought, oh no! Here we go again!! Eventually, the natural supplements seemed to work, I got pregnant and I only suffered a few migraines here and there. Unfortunately, I gained those 10 pounds plus some.
Now I’m pregnant with my second child and oh man! Did my headaches come back with a fervor. I was suffering so badly that I could not live my life. Being pregnant means I can’t take anything for the pain, so I really suffered almost daily with these migraines. I decided to give chiropractic care another shot, as I was so desperate! I found Dr. Andrea Mills online (I was searching for a pre-natal specialist). She has changed my life! Since I started care about 2 months ago, my headaches have dramatically decreased in frequency and severity. I still get a few headaches here and there but nothing like where I can’t live my life.
I really like her approach of chiropractic care. She does testing to make sure where and how to adjust, not just a random adjustment. She really takes her time to understand what I need and I continue to see her once a week. Thank you Dr. Mills for changing my life!
