Mother-Daughter Instagram Shenanigans
My 14 year old daughter got on Instagram a few weeks ago. That was weird; all of a sudden my baby has a social media presence. And I’m not in control!
Here’s a little Live I did about her first IG video experience:
I’m not worried about her social media presence, or of predators, or of her doing ridiculously stupid stuff on there (I’m sure she’ll do some stupid stuff, but not *ridiculously* stupid stuff, she’s got a good head on her shoulders and her dad and I have done a good job teaching her to understand consequences).
What I’m worried about is what she thinks of MY Instagram posts.
I was an early adopter of FB, creating my profile back in 2008. I played around with Twitter in 2009/2010 but found 140 characters was too limiting. I have a Pinterest account but never use it. I only started using Instagram when I realized I could push it to Facebook and get double the bang for my time.
There are two personalities on social media: The Exhibitionist and The Voyeur.
I’m The Exhibitionist.
I think my daughter is The Voyeur.
So, as she is figuring out who she is (in real life and on social media), she’ll be watching me play my part in all my Exhibitionist glory at an age when I know who I am, am confident in that role, and don’t give a darn what anyone thinks of me. I think she’s going to be mortified! But maybe she’ll surprise me.

That’s all I have to say about that!
